The funny thing is...he only barks at deer and buzzards...NEVER PEOPLE!  We try to keep him in the house when a stanger shows up; at least from the window he LOOKS like he could be a serious watch dog.  If we let him out, he just runs up to the stangers and kisses them while madly wagging his tail.  And if they're are kids around, he just goes on non-listen mode to be with them.  We adopted him from the pound a few years ago, and I think he must have been with a family with kids before us.

Hey Kevin, great family picture of the perros!  Are they cute or what?!!!  We really like the Jack Russel Terriers.  I look forward to meeting them at Christmas time. Do they travel on board or underneath with the baggage? We haven't had dogs for a few years now and kind of miss them, except that we are traveling so much these days.  If we were to get another dog it would need to be small and portable, but would like to bring on board in a carrier so then they'd have to fit under the seat.  I would want them to be quiet too, during the flight.

Mags, gatos aren't outta style yet - we just got a new kitten (thanks to our son) and we just loooove him.  Our other one isn't so sure just yet but it's getting better every day.  He's really smart and so cool. Cats are sooooo easy!

Love your JR's!  We had one for many years, Schotzi; we lost her last year after 13+ years.  Our dog will go crazy when he sees yours; I know he still misses her.  If you can put up with a JR for the first 5 years of puppyhood, the rest is gravy!  You must have tremendous patience to have 2!  (or maybe like kids, it makes it easier?!)

Ya know I would have NEVER believed  just how "calm" the two of them are !   The one on the right is Ollie..3 years old and the left is Lucy 1 year. I thought they would be like two gerbils on crack, but they are good.  The big guy in the back row ,we got from a shelter 13 years ago,and they told us he would be small....("about the size of a JR.....RIGHT !) He is a great old hound (American Fox Hound) the two jack's are from the same Mom & Dad, 3 years apart and both listen very well,
They do get along with other dogs so bring  Tag over to meet them.

* Ya know I think Maggie will watch all three if we want to go out.......(Maggie with 3 dogs....JE JE JE !)

Has anyone "drove " down to Mexico, from the U.S    (and befor everyone jumps up and down, I'm talking down to like "OUR" area, not just a border crossing)  Like how long a ride is it?  hows the area along the way ?

Bill Marba posted the following.  He said he's driven down twice.  Once with the wife and kids - 5 1/2 days, and once by himself - 2 days.

I have driven from Kansas City, MO to the island of Cozumel twice. Make sure that you have a good LIST of everything you have packed--if you have that then you have a very good chance that they will NOT make you unload everything at the border. Make sure you have the title to the vehicle in the name of the person driving.  Also, they will probably ask you why you are driving there, etc.  just tell them you are taking a very long vacation (thats what I did). Also, you have to have a valid credit card to get the windshield sticker--they will not accept cash. Stay on hwy 180 most of the way and just "hug" the gulf of mexico.  Basically the route is from brownsville, tx straight south to Tampico, then vera cruz, villa hermosa, escarcega,--over to chetumal then North on 307 to chemuyil.  The road from the border to tampico is mostly only 2 lanes and it will be slow going if you get behind a truck/bus, etc. and for sure you will.  between Tampico and Vera Cruz there are places where the road is absolutely HORRIBLE so take it slow.  Once you hit vera cruz take the brand new highway--the "autopista" You will have to pay around $30usd in tolls between vera cruz and villa hermosa but its totally worth it as you will be one of the only people on the brand new road and you can go 100mph if you want as there will be no one there. Be careful if you choose to drive at night as a lot of the two lane roads have NO shoulder and people will walk and ride bicycles at night with no lights or anything and you can really have problems if you dont see them.  Also, from time to time between towns you will see animals (horses, cattle, etc) near or on the road. All in all, both times for me was an adventure and it really is not that bad I buy my insurance online from GE seguros and there is another one called "ACE" that is pretty good--you can pay online and print your policy to have it before you even leave GOOD LUCK and may the "force" be with you!   Bill

WOW... Thanks Carol, I didn't see that ,sounds cool. Still I'm not a big fan of driving, although I raptly starting to hate flying !  From N.J to Cancun..........3 .5 Hrs.    BUT......... 2 hrs arrival time at airport, Then at least a 30 min. delay (Newark airport ) 30 min at Cancun airport waiting for bags, 1 &30 min ride from airport to Casa......... But it worth it !

Kevin - Mark and our friend drove from Seattle to Tuscon in 24 hours (roughly) and then spent the night - then 3 days to La Manzanilla which is about 1 hour north of Manzanillo on the Pacific Coast.  No problems at the border and Bruce had a truck and trailer full of household goods.  There's some new discussion today about driving down.  Steve and Barb Nyhart are driving from Kansas City.  And Michele's mom is driving from Canada.  Here's what she had to say.

From Canada it will take you about 3 days of 10 hour driving each day
to make it to the Mex. border. We started in Calgary and made it to
Nogales, Mexico (just below Arizona)in 3 easy days. The US border asks
more questions and the Mex borders didn't ask us much at all. Bill
mentioned in another thread that it took him 3 days from Texas so from
southern Canada it should take 6 days of driving that is if you don't
stop along the way to see some outstanding sights. The gas gets
cheaper the more south you go and the air gets hotter - YEE HAW! You
can buy Mexican car insurance on-line (which is cheaper) or as you
pass thru the border. My sister just bought Mexican car insurance
(on-line) for her 2001 Cavalier and it only cost $350. We bought 3
weeks insurance from an AAA in Pheonix, AZ, for the same car and it
cost $250. for just the 3 weeks. Check on-line it really is a better
deal.

Good luck to anyone making the drive - don't forget to stop and smell
the roses along the way!!

Michelle

All I ask for Xmas is that all you guys up north that are coming down, leave the snow and cold up there!!!  At first ,our first Xmas was strange with no cold or snow, and no smell of the fireplaces burning, BUT YOU GET USE TO IT FAST.  Now when I see the reports to the freezing below 0 temps in Chicago and all the snow I wont be shoveling, I say Viva Mexico!!!   Give me sand and 70 degree temps anyday for Xmas.  See You Soon!

That's a promise Renee!  We will be sooooo HAPPY to leave the snow and cold behind!
It'll be strange to go from skiing one day to snorkeling the next......a much needed, warm reprieve in the middle of winter.
